God Sees

As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:18

We can get caught up in material things in this world. Imagine what it would be like if our motivations were more aimed at storing up treasure in heaven. These are the selfless acts that go unnoticed, the things you don’t normally get recognized for. But God sees these things and is greatly pleased. Would you rather be patted on the back by a colleague or friend, or would you rather unknowingly please your Father in heaven?

Your Breath…

Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:7

This verse, above all, depicts what sparks and sustains us from day one of our conceptions. Whether you believe in God or not, your life begins and continues until death from this one breath. When stories of racial discrimination populate the headlines, this is the verse I refer back to. God’s breath expands and deflates every lung regardless of the color of the wrapping we live in.

God’s Light…

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

1 Corinthians 15:10

I think that’s what we’re all striving for, that God’s grace would not have been in vain. We strive daily to follow Jesus’ example and live a life that would outwardly display that we are different and that God’s light shines through us. But it’s hard work. We all fall on our faces sometimes, we get up and dust off the dirt, and we move on. It’s the perpetual moving forward, pressing on that shows we are moving toward something greater.

May God lift you up and His light shine through you today and every day!

Stand Firm!

And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.

Nehemiah 6:3-4

When God leads you to take on a task you can be assured of one thing, there will be naysayers. If God has big plans, Satan will be there in full force, attempting to knock you off course. Be strong and stand firm! If God has set this thing in motion, He will bring it to completion!

Dig Deeper

If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.

1 Corinthians 8:2

The Bible, for me, is different nearly every time I read through it. Verses I’ve read through many times all of the sudden have new meaning. It’s the same thing with God. Once a seem to have figured out parts of His nature I find I don’t really know Him at all. It leads me to continue to dig deeper. The deeper you dig the more in awe of Him you become.

Experience True Peace

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35

I find that when my life is at its most chaotic it’s because I have not surrendered either part of my life or certain situations fully into God’s hands. To experience God’s peace, we need to surrender all things to Him. As you do, the chaos will vanish and you will experience true peace. That’s faith in action.

I’ve fallen, but I can get up!

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Hebrews 10:36

It’s good to admit your flaws, it helps you to make corrections and change course. I waver when it comes to being patient. I can go for long stretches where I give my concerns over to God. Then I stumble, take them back, and become overwhelmed with anxiety. My hope is that God is building endurance in me, that one day the long stretches will become a constant form of devotion. We all stumble, but as God works to strengthen our resolve, we will gain the endurance needed to finish the race.
