Stand Firm

DAILY VERSE

There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.

Job 1:1

DEVOTION

Many will go through the Bible taking only a cursory glance at the Book of Job. But for anyone who’s experienced trials, this book takes on a whole new meaning. God “allows” Satan to do his worst to get Job to denounce God, whom he’s served flawlessly. Job stands firm, though his lament is something each of us who’ve faced trials can relate to. Though your faith is tested and you may feel alone at times, stand firm in your faith, God is with you!

God is GOOD!

DAILY VERSE

If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

2 Timothy 2:13

DEVOTION

There are times when trials stretch out from days to months, to years… During those times it’s easy to see a ray of hope amplified to the point where you think, “my time in the valley is finally coming to end!” Then reality sets in, you realize you’re still waiting. When these times of self-induced hope fail time after time, your faith in the process can waiver. God works even the worst of situations into good…keep hoping, keep dreaming, continue to pray, because God is good!

DEVOTION

God gives each of us talents and spiritual gifts. He gives them to us to glorify Himself and further the Great Commission. If you’re ever concerned that you are not able to use your talents to the fullest, be patient, God does not waste resources, He will make a way!

Being Persistent

DAILY VERSE

And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.

Genesis 32:24

DEVOTION

God doesn’t expect us to be defiant, but being persistent can pay off. Jacob refused to give up and wrestled with God throughout the night, refusing to give up. He wanted to be blessed. Many times, persistence is required. Pray, pray, pray, and pray some more. Come before God humbly, but be persistent.

Stay Focused

DAILY VERSE

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

John 14:1

walking on water

DEVOTION

When Peter walked out onto the water, his focus was zeroed in on Jesus. Once his gaze wavered, doubt crept in and he began to sink. Whatever you are facing, don’t avert your gaze, stay laser focused on Jesus, He will carry you through.

Lost & Found

DAILY VERSE

I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.

Psalm 119:15

DEVOTION

Often, when churches open up their bins of lost-and-found items, the highest percentage items are notably Bibles. I think many of us need to dig through our personal lost-and-found and reconnect with God’s Word. Without it, we have no defense against the trials that can wash over us like waves. This Bible makes up the fortification that guards our souls and keeps us upright. Meditating on it is our muscle to combat negative thoughts, anxiety, and doubt.

We are not Judges

DAILY VERSE

You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.

John 8:15

Judge with gavel

DEVOTION

I think there are many misconceptions when it comes to our faith and how we should exercise it. The Bible has a lot to say about how God expects us to live, but though we are considered priests in God’s sight, we have not been appointed as judges. The way we reach the lost is by loving them no matter their financial status, race, or beliefs. To speak life into the world we have to reflect Jesus.
