We Have an Obligation

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God…

Romans 8:16

Believing that each person receives the sustaining breath of the Almighty to carry them through from birth to death, it’s no wonder so many feel empty when their pursuits run counter to God’s will. It’s no wonder then that we see so much heartache in this world. We have an obligation to shine a light on the darkness, proclaiming the Good News to all, that they may be saved from destruction.

Take His Hand

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

Matthew 14:27

When I was young one of our favorite summer activities was going to the high school pool to swim. It was opened to the public for a small fee. As kids, you’re always challenging each other. Here, the challenge was the 12-foot high dive. A flexible board that felt much like walking the plank. Even worse for your self esteem, turning around and chickening out.

In life we face these same tests of courage, but on a much greater scale. Will we take the challenge and come through triumphant, or will we slink back into the shallow end of the pool with our heads hung low. Jesus is there with His hand extended saying, “Take courage, I am with you.” Step out of the boat and take His hand!

Forward Momentum

Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”

Genesis 11:4

Do we sometimes worry more about impressing others than walking in Jesus’ footsteps as we follow Him to the kingdom of heaven? Do we put our career and status first, ahead of our identity in Jesus Christ? The Tower of Babel is a perfect example of that. People, banding together to build something to impress rather than glorifying God. Keep your upward momentum going, His plans are greater than you can imagine!

Let it Shine…

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13:1

There are many references throughout the New Testament to show love toward others. Kind of makes you think Jesus has a theme going? With smartphones causing people to bump into walls and so many other distractions, many have forgotten what it’s like to be in relationship. Let your light shine in the darkness, connect with others and introduce them to the love that entered your life the moment you excepted Jesus!

Yes, Jesus Loves Me!

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

John 15:12

If we are to love like Jesus, we need to be all in! We need to love recklessly. We need to remove the strings and give it freely. It’s that unhinged love that draws in the seeker. It’s how Jesus loves us.

We Will Be Richly Rewarded

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—

1 Corinthians 2:9

Whether it be His love or heaven; God informs us that we cannot wrap our human minds around the depth or grandeur of His plans for us. Here, we will never experience a love that complete or bask in a place as grand as heaven. We should take great comfort in God’s plan for our lives, knowing that in the end, we will be rewarded that richly.

God IS with Us

For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.

Acts 2:25-26

It warms my soul to know God is always with me. Knowing that I always seem to go through times where anxiety and/or doubt set in. Our God is bigger than any circumstance we could ever confront. If we were to hold onto the fact that God is with us, we’d be able to face giants and level mountains!
