“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
When Peter walked on water, if he would have just kept his eyes on Jesus, the water wouldn’t have been a problem. As soon as he took his focus off of Jesus he began to sink.
We have a choice to make; we either allow the world to dictate how we live, or we focus on Jesus. The world has fear, anxiety, greed, anger, jealousy, envy, and pride for us. Focusing on Jesus plants the seeds of peace, joy, and humbleness.
Choose to keep your eyes on Jesus. Listen to His voice. Allow Him to lead you on the path to righteousness.
The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
1 Samuel 17:37
David was the youngest and least experienced of his brothers when he was chosen to be king. Hand-picked by God, he had to go from being a shepherd to facing a giant clothed in armor in the blink of an eye.
Circumstances, especially difficult ones, tend to come out of nowhere and require us to prepare in a moments notice, to conquer whatever giant has been placed before us.
Spend time in the Word of God, so you are ready when God calls you into action.
…“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today…”
When you are in the will of God, you are in the protection of God, even amidst the storms you face. It’s far to easy to get sucked into the fear-machine. We hear of panic and anxiety running rampant, but remember this, God as far from generating a spirit of fear!
If you’re feeling fear grip you. If you’re feeling anxious and afraid. These are feelings promoted by the Deceiver!
Turn to God and ask Him to fill you with His peace, a peace that baffles worldly understanding!
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
You can certainly consider this virus spreading globally, at this point, to be shaking things up. But allowing fear to be our primary response is something God wouldn’t approve of.
We should rest in the peace of knowing that whatever happens, our eternal home is in heaven. God wants us to focus on His promises and have faith that He will protect us and get us through this.
Remember, God is the great physician. He created all things and holds all things together. Nothing happens without His knowledge, He is in control!
Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.
This is a discipline I really need to hone! It’s so simple to allow anxiety and fear to overwhelm you. God doesn’t want you to live that way! It’s as easy as refocusing your attention away from your current circumstances and focus on God instead.
Remember, God is Good! If you’re feeling fearful or anxious, it’s not coming from Him. Through prayer and by reading His Word, reestablish your focus on God and His goodness and you will surely feel the peace only He offers!
