Is This Your Saturday?

DAILY VERSE

He was buried in a tomb and was raised from the dead after three days, as foretold in the Scriptures.

1 Corinthians 15:4

DEVOTION

Saturday was the day in between Jesus’ death and His resurrection. This is the day everyone was grappling with the fact that Jesus was dead. His followers must have felt hopeless and powerless.

“… Saturday was the day your dream died. You wake up and you’re still alive. You have to go on, but you don’t know how. Worse, you don’t know why.” — John Ortberg

If you’re experiencing your “Saturday”, be hopeful! Your Sunday will come! God will guide you out of the valley and onto the mountaintop.

Hold Fast!

DAILY VERSE

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Ephesians 6:13

DEVOTION

It’s easy to say that our faith won’t falter when life is going smoothly, but it’s harder to say so when you’re in the midst of a storm.

“Hold fast!” This is an old phrase used by sailors back when most ships relied on sails. This phrase would be shouted over the sound of thunder or battle from one sailor to the other. When this phrase was used, it meant to stay at your position. To remain tightly secured in the face of adversity.

The simple choice would be to give up, but you would be missing out on something big God has planned for your life. To “hold fast” is not only the toughest decision, but the right choice. As hard as it gets, no matter how hard the waves crash into you, God will be your strength in the storm!

He Stills the Waves

DAILY VERSE

He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.

Psalm 107:29

DEVOTION

Don’t let yourself focus on the negative when the positive is just within reach. It’s so easy to allow your circumstances to overshadow the possibilities God has set before you.

Faith is not an option, it’s a necessity! God has a plan!

Embrace Your Circumstances

DAILY VERSE

In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.

Job 1:22

DEVOTION

We have to embrace the fact that we will face seasons of trials throughout our lives as followers of Christ. There will be times when God will need to prune our branches and stretch our faith so that we will grow more reliant on Him.

But it is vital that we realize this is for our good. God doesn’t pull the rug out from under us to punish us. When we stand on the premise that God is good and there is no darkness in Him, we can weather our circumstances, not blaming God for them, but accepting that good will be the result.

Pressed But Not Crushed

DAILY VERSE

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.

Proverbs 17:3

DEVOTION

Many believe that by making a decision to follow Christ their lives will become much easier. The opposite is true. To follow Christ means we need to become more Christ-like. This often requires a burning away of our selfish, sinful, fallen nature much like the impurities burned away when precious metals are heated to a high temperature.

God knows what it will take. We will be pressed but not crushed. He will plot out our journey and guide us along the way. We will find that our motives and actions align more with His as we press on towards the ultimate prize, an eternity with Christ!

Do You Have a Dream?

DAILY VERSE

Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.

Genesis 37:5

DEVOTION

Has God given you a dream? Is there something God has laid on your heart that has not yet come to pass? Imagine how Joesph felt. He was his fathers favorite and his brothers hated him for it. His dream of his family bowing before him pushed his brothers over the edge and they sold him into slavery.

However, all along Joseph served his superiors faithfully, regardless of how he was treated; he never let his situation deter him from his faith in God.

If God has given you a “dream”; serve faithfully, keep your focus on Jesus, and never lose hope that God will accomplish what He has placed in your heart.

Where is your Focus?

DAILY VERSE

We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity. We see our difficulties as the substance that produces for us an eternal, weighty glory far beyond all comparison

2 Corinthians 4:17

DEVOTION

Why do we tend to worry and descend into a place of fear when trials befall us? Simple, we forget to keep our eyes on Jesus by following His teachings. Instead we often solely look at the wind and waves surrounding our situation.

Christ reminds us to keep things in perspective, as our current situation is a “light and momentary affliction” when compared to eternity. If we instead dive into God’s Word and keep our focus anchored onto our Strong Tower, Jesus, anxiety and fear will flee.
