We Are Never Alone

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Matthew 4:40

The disciples, out on the water alone while Jesus prayed, faced a furious storm. We will face many in our lifetime. Just as the disciples did, we tend to think that Jesus is far off as we battle through the waves alone. But just as He did with His disciples, He prays for us and shows up at just the right moment.

His timing is always perfect and in Him, we are never alone!

Neither let them be afraid

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27

God’s Word gives us a window into heaven. Through it, we get a glimpse of who God is; His nature, expectations of us, and His overwhelming love for us. We also know that, as believers, we have the promise of eternal life. When worldly pressures allow fear to penetrate your being, remember these things and be comforted. We have an advocate in Jesus Christ, who intercedes for us daily.

When the Answer is Wait

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

Exodus 13:21

Have you ever felt that God is far away as you’re going through a time of trials? Take heart, God’s draws near to those facing challenging times. God answers prayers in three ways: yes, no, and wait. If God’s answer is to wait, He is preparing you for things far greater than you can imagine. He’s building your faith so that, when the time comes, you will be fully prepared to take on the responsibilities that He will be placing on you.

Dwelling with the Lord

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

Genesis 3:8

What did we lose because of sin? Though we cannot claim the “original sin”, we are all flawed due by one defect in our character which results in most every sin ever committed, selfishness. Becuase of it, we’ve lost that closeness with God, Him walking among us. Thankfully, Jesus Christ repaired this broken relationship. Now we can all have a hope of dwelling with the Lord for eternity!

God in the Desert

I took care of you in the wilderness, in that dry and thirsty land.

Hosea 13:5

We often refer to those times that we go through trials as our time in the desert. We think of the desert as dry and barren, devoid of life. But God met with Moses there, His people experienced their closest and most intimate time with Him as they made their way to the promised land going through it. As you go through those times where you feel like you’re stranded in the middle of a desert, realize that God is closest in these moments and your opportunity to grow can thrive.

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous.

1 Corinthians 16:13

C.S. Lewis writes this about courage, “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” We need the compass of God’s Word if we are to navigate this world courageously. To put things in a geeky perspective; our spiritual operating systems need constant updating, upgrades, and virus protection. The only way to get that is through daily downloads of God’s Word and spending time with Him in prayer, listening to the “still, small voice” of the Holy Spirit.

Great courage is within your grasp!

Attacking the Gates

And from the time John the Baptist began preaching until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people are attacking it.

Matthew 11:12

Are you violently attacking God’s purpose for your life? I love the classic scene from The Blues Brothers when Elwood Blues announces: “We’re on a mission from God.” When God puts something in your heart, your passion should follow. You should be attacking it as a soldier on a mission. What has God placed on your heart? Are you attacking it with passion? God gives us talents and a purpose if we’re no using them they’re being wasted.
