And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.
The eye represents our thoughts, where sin begins. The hand represents carrying out that sin. And the foot is where sin becomes a habit, a walk. What we need to do is be more like Joseph when Potiphar’s wife attempted to tempt him, and run!! Being keenly aware of the initial temptations of sin and being predetermined to run from it (cut it off) will save you the guilt and self-condemnation sin brings with it.
