And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.
1 John 2:28
Shame – A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.
I think it’s safe to say we’ve all felt shame at some point in our lives. I know once I made the decision to follow Christ a had a period where I felt deeply ashamed and repentant, the conviction was overwhelming. But even as a longtime believer, there are still times when I feel shame. The shame this verse is referring to is a next level shame that a life living counter to God’s will brings about.
Live each day convicted and strive to pick up your cross daily so that when you meet Jesus face-to-face you won’t have to shrink from His gaze.
