Getting Back Up

…for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

Proverbs 24:16

We all make mistakes, stumbling is inevitable. But it’s that we get back up that makes all the difference. Whether through God’s strength or you own, having the will to learn from your mistakes and move forward takes courage and glorifies God.

Heavy Heart?

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

Psalms 94:19

When your heart is bogged down with the cares of this world, God is there to comfort you. His love will carry you through as He gives you a peace that rivals human understanding.

Leave it Behind

For each will have to bear his own load.

Galatians 6:5

We may not realize how much baggage we end up carrying on a daily basis, our sins build up over time. The good news is this; Jesus Christ paid the price, He cleared our sin debt by dying on a cross. Leave the baggage you’ve accumulated behind, live a life that honors the sacrifice Jesus made for you.

Walk the Walk…

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

When I’ve related past experiences to my children, it’s because I’ve made the mistakes and my hopes are that they will not repeat them. Jesus walked on this earth, He knows the struggles mankind faces first hand. His strength abounds, rely on Him and He will get you through the deepest waters.

I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

Psalms 116:1-2

Why is it that during difficult times we always seem to ask, “God, do you hear my prayers?” When we’re prosperous we assume God is fully blessing us, but when trials come, we wonder if he’s listening. God is always aware and always involved for our good. We can have confidence in that, always!

Set Free!

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

Similar to a shackled prisoner being set free, we have choices to make daily. Do we go back to our old ways or do we live under the freedom we’ve been given in Christ Jesus? For every temptation, Christ provides a way out. Live free with an eternal perspective, stay focused on the one who set you free.

Out of Reach

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

Acts 4:12

It’s really sad that so many people assume that by being a good person or doing good things, they’ve secured a spot in heaven. I’ve known some of the most awesome and generous people who, in my mind, display all of the outward characteristics of a “good Christian”, yet they don’t believe. The Bible is clear; if you do not accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, heaven is beyond your reach. This should burden the believer with a desire to share their faith with those who have not yet met Jesus.

Instant Gratification

He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!”

Genesis 25:30

Human beings are inherently impatient and self-focused,  as the commercial says, “I want my _____ and I want it now!”  Have you ever wondered what would happen if that thing you wanted to happen immediately would fall apart if it were given to you now? Or that God may have something better and long lasting if you were to wait? Don’t sell out to the Devil’s whispers for instant gratification, God has much greater things in store!

The One

“Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me” Psalm 70:1

Psalm 70:1

How often do we allow anxiety, hurt, or our own problems to blot out our reliance on the One who can give us the strength to overcome it all? So often we focus more on the circumstance before finally dropping to our knees and asking for help.

Lord, help each of us overcome the struggles of each day, knowing that you are our hope and our salvation.

Press On…

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.

Philippians 3:12

Persistence is the key to fighting the “good fight”. Every time we fall down we must, in turn, get up. It’s definitely hard sometimes when the blows keep coming, but with God’s strength, we can endure almost anything the world throws at us.
