Have You Matured?

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Romans 8:15

At some point, we have to fully let go of the wheel! As mature Christians, we should not continually live our lives in fear. We should understand that God is in control and that His plans for us are for good and not destruction. Living in fear is a worldly attribute. As followers of Christ, we should be able to trust Him fully and allow Him to guide our paths.

What is Your Calling?

For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Esther 4:14

God calls each of us to do certain things during our temporary residency here in the world. He calls people to be pastors, to be businessmen or women, to encourage, to teach, to build…etc. He may have given you a vision of something He had planned for you to do. Whatever it is, God called you to it. While we are here, we must give our all to strive to be good stewards of what God has called us to. For one day we all long to hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant!”

Be Still…

Work No. 890: DON'T WORRY 2008 by Martin Creed born 1968

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices.

Psalm 37:7

It’s hard to “fret not” when you don’t know the whole story. While God completes things and brings trails to a close, we must wait patiently. It’s hard, anxiety rises up and attempts to shake your resolve, but be still and know that God’s timing is perfect as He continues to prepare you for the work He has planned.

Beyond Our Understanding

And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:58

The hometown folks wouldn’t believe that a lowly carpenter was the long awaited for Messiah. In all of history man has had the hardest time accepting the fact that, though they were created by the Almighty, they will never fully understand His ways. It’s when we shoehorn God into a box and give Him human characteristics that everything falls apart, including our security that He can do all things. We can know one thing, that God created us out of love and He can accomplish the miraculous in our lives!

Opened Doors

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28

When you go through a trial, the beginning may seem more like torture than a blessed time for growing in your faith. But even the times that seem to be the hardest can culminate in something amazing happening in the end. God desires the best from us and sometimes that means persevering through times of testing to develop our faith and take us to a higher level. Once we’ve been adequately prepared, He will reveal His plans and the doors we’ve been waiting to see opened will swing wide!

The Pattern that Grows Faith

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope…

Romans 5:3-4

There seems to be a distinct pattern here: Suffering, Endurance, Character, and Hope. God has a purpose for every trial we go through. At first, you can feel as if you’re being punished. You learn that God may be doing something, so you develope patience. You begin to see how God is using the trial to reveal Himself as your faith grows. As the end of the trial seems to be in sight, you start to feel hope. You see that the suffering had a purpose and God has been glorified.

God Working Through Us

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29

You can feel like the weakest vessel, but with the strength of God behind you, you can weather any storm and move mountains. When we get out of the way and allow God to do great things “through” us, lives are changed. Keep your focus on Christ, He can use the least of us to do things you never thought possible.
