Be a Comforter

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

Isaiah 40:1–2

We’re supposed to “comfort” others not condemn. The old saying goes, “You can attract more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.” People are drawn to and will be more open with someone who approaches them in love rather than anger. You can really shake someones faith by condemning them when they make mistakes rather than lovingly help them get through it.

Lord, help me to be there as a comforter when my family or friends slip into a sinful situation or are struggling through trials.
